WHAT TO WEAR
THIS CAN BE THE TOUGHEST PART OF THE SESSION
Clothing should not distract
Remember, the portraits we capture are not about the clothing; they are about the people! As a general rule of thumb, logos, loud patterns, and overly casual clothing will divert attention from the people. I'd suggest you spend some time reviewing and approving clothing options for the session to make sure nothing distracts. Generally, men and boys need the most help in this area — but that rare male needs none at all. You can decide which category each male in your family falls into.
Complement, don't match
The days of everyone wearing the same colors are over — today it's best to find colors that complement each other rather than match perfectly. Some great options: soft cool colors like light blue, gray, and blue-green; or pleasing warm tones like brown, orange, and burgundy. Pick a palette of two or three complementary colors and let everyone pull from it — variety in tone and texture photographs beautifully.
